“There has been an ongoing problem at our school for years. This problem is the lack of a suitable facility that provides our school community with space, shade and protection from the elements of nature. Since our school does not have a school hall, all activities, celebrations and inter-class lessons take place outdoors, with only one tree providing shade,” says Deputy Principal Hermanus van Ster, describing the situation in early 2020. As a solution to this long-cherished desire for a school hall, he proposes roofing over the schoolyard.

In addition to the desired improvements such as more protected space for school activities and lessons even under corona conditions for the whole school, the school hall has become the largest room in Kalkfeld. “A landmark,” proudly reports the principal, who is also rented out to the Kalkfeld community for special events, thus helping the school to help itself.
